Timing is Everything

This last weekend while staying for 5 days at a cabin, I got some great opportunities to experience those "golden hours" both at sunrise and sunset. I loved this little barn and trees. It reminded me of something from a postcard. It was really amazing to see how the scene changed at different times during the day. Now, I just can't pick a favorite.

Sunrise

I caught a beautiful sunrise over the Tetons the other morning. This is rare for me since I am NOT a morning person, but what a gorgeous reward for getting up early. Maybe my photography passion is good for me it could get me out of bed earlier on occaision ;)

Natural Light

I have decided to challenge myself to learn and work with the natural light that is present in my home. Here are a few we snapped the other day. I'm loving them in Black & white.

I didn't have any good pictures of my brother, so I made him stand still for a minute this last summer when he was home. Miss your guts!!!

Orton Technique

I have had several requests asking about how to achieve the effect I did with the landscape photos from a previous post. It is called Orton Imagery or the Orton technique. Kenadee since you posted your comment annonymously I didn't have an email to reply, so I will post here the link to a tutorial with easy instructions on how to get this effect on photos with Photoshop. I hope it helps. You'll have to email or let me know how it works for you. I'd love to see other tries at this.

New Look

Hey! I finally figured out how to get a little more custom with my blog. I was so excited to try a little more creativity. It was really fun once I figured it out. I think changing it around from time to time could be addictive. I have always loved desktop publishing and designing, but don't a thing about html. Well, I'm learning a little and getting more practice with my photoshop program so...what do you think?

New Photo Technique

I just wanted to post a few pictures trying a photography technique that I learned. I am really having fun with this. These photos are of a dock in Mexico, Denver LDS Temple, Sunset at our cabin, and the red rocks of St. George.

I'm back ~ Merry Christmas

I finally put something together for a Christmas card of sorts. I've been pretty much off the map and haven't posted anything for quite a while because of some medical problems with my baby Jaden. Nov.15th he stood up (he's learning to walk) and fell and caught himself palms open on both hands on the glass of our gas fireplace. He suffered 3rd degree burns from the tips of his fingers to his wrists. We had to go out of state to a Hospital with a burn center for 3 1/2 weeks. It was very ugly at first, but he is doing much better. We're finally home and trying to get back to life as normal. He had full thickness skin grafts to cover both palms. They took the skin from the goin area on both legs. He's been quite a trooper. Needless to say, I'm totally going through withdrawl from my photography. Today I sat down and did this collage. We tried several times this year to get a family picture, but could never get one where everyone was smiling or even all looking at the camera at the same time. Someone was always crying or something. Anyway, I finally gave up and just did a collage of the kids. Besides I haven't had much time lately to try again. I had bought matching outfits to use for Christmas cards, but with the burns, it really threw a wrench in that. Oh well. I do like how these turned out. I'll have to get my camera out soon. I hope you are all enjoying this holiday season. We are sure definitely counting our blessings!

Happy Holidays!!

I'll try to start posting regularly again. ~Alana

Heidi Ho!

My friend's daughter Heidi was so fun to Photograph. What a great sport. She was very relaxed and it made my job easy. She is such a pretty girl I really enjoyed working with her. I can't believe how grown up she is getting. This was a great day!

First Teenager

Burkley was the first teenager that I have done a photo shoot with. He was great. Thanks Burk for being patient with me! It was great practice and very different than posing little kids or women. Thanks

I love trains!

Holly and I had so much fun on this train. What a fun place to shoot. It also provided some good places to shoot in the shade since the sun was too bright. I think the green train really brings out her green eyes. What a beauty!

Girl, Girl, Girl!

Amanda was so fun to shoot. She stood where and how I asked her too! What a reversal from my rowdy boys who don't hold still for anyone. It was fun to capture her gorgeous eyes. Here are some of my favorites from the shoot. (How do you choose???)

Quote

I ran across this quote a while back. I'm sorry I didn't write down where I saw it, but I did write the quote. I found it again today and felt it fit my mood today. I loved it then and still love it now.

"At the heart of each of us, whatever our imperfections, there exists a silent pulse of perfect rhythm, which is absolutely individual and unique, and yet which connects us to everything else."
